History is a story, and literature provides ample space for these diverse stories to be told. Unfortunately, we find that people tend to fight with one another over different versions of history. One of the problems facing this country is its closed and dogmatic historiography, which rarely allows space for diversity. We need history writing that is more inclusive and exciting. This year, LIFEs invites writers and readers to celebrate the diversity and richness of individual stories, to fill the empty spaces found inside the grand narratives of the histories of this country, of itself but also in its relations with other countries.
This project is but a small prelude toward more inclusive history writing. Thus, this year’s theme is Kisahku, Sejarah Bersama (My Story, Shared History).
