Known as a researcher of pop culture and oral traditions in North Sumatra, Koko Hendri Lubis has written numerous articles for various bulletins, newspapers, and magazines.
Some of his published books include Bayo Jambu: Folktales from Mandailing (2014), Si Muntu, Orang Buruk: Oral Literature from Mandailing (2014), Kumpulan Buras Mandailing (2015), Hikayat Si Pogos (2015), and Traditional Weddings in Mandailing (2016).
His research on comics has resulted in two books: Komik Medan: The History of Illustrated Stories in Indonesia (2015) and Taguan Hardjo: Straight from the Heart (2016).
He also co-founded the Si Bangoen Society with Surinamese repatriate and Medan comic artist E. Bismo Hardjo. Hendri is a board member at the Mandailing Information and Documentation Center (PIDM) in Medan. He is actively involved in the Forum Cergam and conducts comic research at the Narrative Studies Center, Faculty of Fine Arts, Jakarta Institute of the Arts.
