Established in 1974, Gramedia Pustaka Utama — PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama (Gramedia) — has published more than 30.000 titles. The first fiction publication was Karmila by Marga T.—which has been reprinted more than 20 times. As for the nonfiction publication, the first book was Hanya Satu Bumi by Barbara Ward and René Dubos—an unofficial report of Conference on the Human Environment, commissioned by the Secretary-General of the United Nations—published in cooperation with Yayasan Obor.
