Andreas Harsono

Andreas Harsono is an author and journalist. He initiated his career as a reporter for Bangkok-based Nation and Kuala Lumpur-based Star newspapers. He played a role in establishing Jakarta’s Alliance of Independent Journalists in 1994 and was a co-founder of the Institute for the Studies on Free Flow of Information in Jakarta and the South East Asia Press Alliance in Bangkok. In 2003, he contributed to the establishment of the Pantau Foundation, a journalist training organization also headquartered in Jakarta. Since 2008, he has been reporting on Indonesia for Human Rights Watch. His published books encompass Jurnalisme Sastrawi: Antologi Liputan Mendalam dan Memikat together with Budi Setiyono, and Agama Saya Adalah Jurnalisme, along with the English book Race, Islam and Power: Ethnic and Religious Violence in Post-Suharto Indonesia.1
