Vague rumors about a mysterious poetry manuscript by an obscure Indonesian poet, Rudi Rodhom—listed in a 1992 issue of Horison as Rudhie R.—send our protagonist, Dea Anugerah (a final-year philosophy student who loves poetry), wandering to the capital city to track it down.
The problem is that the only somewhat substantial information about the poet comes from an encyclopedia compiled by the person Dea hates the most: the writer Dea Anugrah (without the e in the surname), someone whom, because of the similarity of their names, Dea believes has ruined his life and forced him to adopt the pseudonym Soda Api.
Soda’s investigation leads him into the city’s most squalid districts and brings him into contact with an organization of communist hunters, no less mysterious than the poet himself.
