Habel and Veronika kissed on New Year’s Eve, marking the beginning of their correspondence.

Through these letters, Habel’s world—once filled only with scripture and prayers—became alive with Veronika’s chatter. On the other hand, Veronika’s world, formerly consumed by disillusionment with God, slowly filled with prayers and scripture. Both learned to make peace with themselves and the world.

Yet, there was still something to reconcile between them. Veronika deeply wanted Habel to be her lover, but at the same time, she wanted him to remain steadfast in his calling as a Catholic priest.
