Born Kuningan (Mar 25, 1945) Died (Jun 01, 2006)



Most well-known as a scholar of Sundanese literature. He held an undergraduate degree in History from Padjajaran University and a doctoral degree in Philology from the University of Indonesia. He was a professor in the Faculty of Letters at the University of Indonesia and the head of the Sundanese Studies Centre. He conducted research at Leiden University in the Netherlands and worked as a lecturer at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Japan. He was also a founder of the Rancage Cultural Institute and Caraka Sundanologi, another Sundanese cultural organization. He received several awards for his work and services, including a Satyalencana ‘20 years of literary work’ award from the President in 1998.
