He completed his studies in Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Letters, Udayana University, and also studied Painting at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar.
Jengki actively participated in the movement opposing the reclamation of Benoa Bay in Bali, as part of his idealism to protect Balinese land. His social protests are often expressed through poetry with themes of social criticism.
Active in Indonesian literature since the early 1990s, Jengki began as a poet before expanding his writing to lyrical prose, short stories, features, cultural essays and articles, art criticism/reviews, and novels.
His name became known through his works—novels, literary essays, short stories, and poems—published in various national newspapers such as Kompas, Koran Tempo, Media Indonesia, Republika, Suara Pembaruan, The Jakarta Post, Jawa Pos, Pikiran Rakyat, Bali Post, and others. He is one of the poets featured in Antologi Puisi Dari Negeri Poci, an ongoing anthology series that began in 1993.
His book Jumantara (Pustaka Ekspresi, 2021) earned him first place in the Sayembara Buku Puisi Anugerah Hari Puisi Indonesia (HPI) 2021.
