Don’t be surprised if you find me talking to myself or laughing when no one else is around. In those moments, I might just be with one of my five best friends.

You probably can’t see them… and that’s only natural. They are invisible, often referred to as… ghosts. Yes, they are ghosts—restless souls lingering over lives they felt were unfair.

My ability to see them is both a gift and a curse. This “sight” led me into a unique friendship with five Dutch ghost children. My days are filled with Peter’s laughter, the constant bickering between Hans and Hendrick, the soft, melancholy strains of William’s violin, and, of course, the whimpering of little Johnsen.

Living a life far from “normal” is the price I pay for the happiness I find with them. But everything changes when our friendship demands more: to be together forever. I cannot grant that. I’ve begun to realize that my life does not belong to me alone…

My name is Risa. I can see “them.”

And “they,” in truth, only need to be heard.
