Joan Suyenaga
Authors / TranslatorJoan Suyenaga was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and earned an M.A. in anthropology from the University of Hawaii. She began studying traditional Javanese music (gamelan) and language in the early 1970s, and has lived, raised a family, and worked in Yogyakarta for over 30 years as a freelance writer, translator, and editor focusing on Indonesian and Javanese culture.
