As a collective movement of victims of human rights violations and civil society grounded in perseverance, solidarity, and volunteerism, Aksi Kamisan—through this book—reflects on the meaning of its birth and its 18-year journey.

In their writings, the families of victims and survivors reveal their persistence in demanding justice for the perpetrators of human rights violations—many of whom remain entrenched in positions of power today. Meanwhile, young people candidly share their experiences and lessons learned from Aksi Kamisan. The result is a personal yet diverse interpretation of Aksi Kamisan: as a spiritual and theological reflection on the struggle against injustice; as an effort to cultivate critical awareness; as a platform to bring forward local issues; as a reflection of both women’s vulnerability and resistance; and as a means of preserving collective memory and intergenerational solidarity.

Amid the growing normalization of impunity, Aksi Kamisan continues to stand against the tide of justification and acceptance of the human rights crimes committed by the state.

Even though consciousness often begins as a personal journey, this book implicitly demonstrates that it is also deeply political and significant.
