The short stories in this book, including those published by Kompas throughout the year 2021, reflect selected experiences that often leave us astonished. Religious institutions, always ‘close’ to the morality of divinity, turn out to be the epicenter of the birth of a hypocritical society. Events beyond reason unfold: the 1965 massacre; murders or suicides; the inability to resist myths; powerlessness giving rise to audacity; and conservatism facing the onslaught of modernism.
Perhaps thematic knots like these will always be intriguing and challenging to be continuously explored by authors. It is crucial to note that fiction plays a significant role as a guiding light when society is shrouded in darkness. The short stories in this book aspire greatly to be an integral part of that intention.
