Many things changed in Banda Aceh after the 2004 tsunami. This includes the lives of the Twin Heroes—Hasan and Husein. Losing their father and mother, they temporarily took refuge with Uncle Jack in Medan, while also facing the social changes in their city. This includes witnessing a Kedai Mieso H. Idris having to deal with someone named Putroe Faradiba—who claims to be a descendant of Sultan Sulaiman Syah, whose tomb emerged after the tsunami. Everyone believes it to be a sacred tomb of someone whose name has been erased from Aceh’s history. Moreover, many question and seek to unravel which side is true.

Raisa Kamila’s debut novel, “Perkara Keramat,” with a satirical style, exposes how a society easily blinds itself with religious symbols; how conflicts arise within society over sometimes trivial matters.
