Specializing in modern Indonesian literature, he is the author of, among other publications, Pujangga Baru; Literature and nationalism in Indonesia, 1933-1942, [Bedford Park, South Australia: Flinders University], 1980, and Social commitment in literature and the arts; The Indonesian Institute ofPeople’s Culture, 1950-1965, Clayton: Southeast Asian Studies, Monash University, 1986. Dr. Foulcher can be reached at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW 2006, Australia.
