Ubud Writers & Readers Festival
UWRF 2023
Held annually in Ubud, Bali’s cultural heartland, the festival is Southeast Asia’s flagship literary organisation.
Praised worldwide for its diverse and intimate program, Ubud Writers & Readers Festival gathers over 150 of the world’s most exciting writers, thinkers, and performers for five days of electrifying conversation, thoughtful debate, and joyful celebration of literary culture. Alongside author in-conversations and panel discussions are a wide-ranging offering of Indonesian dance and performance, literary lunches, guided tours of Ubud’s famous markets, temples and rice fields, late night comedy, musical, and spoken word galas, as well as book launches, workshops, and events designed to enrich and inspire the imaginations of emerging writers and young people.
The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival (UWRF) returns for its momentous 20th anniversary festival from 18-22 October 2023. This year, the festival embraces the theme of Atita, Wartamana, Anagata: The Past, the Present, and the Future.

As of now, our resource library consists of approximately 568 writers, 787 books by 242 publishers, 724 contributing authors, 1073 (369 coverages, 200 clippings, and 504 reviews) articles published in 337 media outlets, 76 works in translation, and 58 useful resources that we consider particularly worth noting.
About Us
For short, our main feature, the writer's directory, provides a way for writers to find one another, but more importantly, the resources provided make it easy for event hosts—especially for international event hosts—literary organizers, arts administrators, librarians, booksellers, and readers to get in touch with writers. It's a HOME FOR INDONESIAN WRITERS. We strive to break down the language barriers that have prevented Indonesian books or literature from becoming more widespread.
